How to begin the College Recruitment Process
· Process can be a little intimidating, you need to be proactive and do your research on schools and soccer programs. It is never too late or early to start. · Establish a line of communication with schools/coaches and send updates to your schedule and transcript/test scores. · Visit schools and attend summer ID camps held by the schools that you are interested in. Setup meetings with coaches when you are on campus. Also, setup a campus visit to get a feel of the school. · Be open to any opportunity! If a school contacts you: o Research the program o Research the school o Respond to the coach o Ask questions · Academic Success!!!!! Good Grades and Test Scores. This makes it easier to be recruited. Make a List Make a list of schools based on the following criteria · Academics: o Area of study o Rankings o Post graduate school · Location o In State vs. Out of State o Urban vs. Rural · Cost of Institution o Public vs. Private o Does the school offer in state tuition · Scholarship Possibility o How much money do you need? o What percentage will you accept? (Most womens soccer scholarships are not 100%) o Do they have athletic money left? o Can I get academic monies? · Rank the schools in order based off above criteria Doing your research Use the internet to find out about schools and their soccer programs · Visit the school’s official website · Visit the school’s athetic website for Women’s Soccer · Visit http://www.usnews.com/education this is one excellent resource for researching colleges and their rankings If you plan on playing college soccer you also have to register depending on the division · NCAA Division I, II, and III (National Collegiate Athletic Association) o Visit http://www.ncaa.org o Select Student-Athletes o Select NCAA Eligibility Center · NAIA Division I, II, and III (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) o Visit http://www.naia.org o Select NAIA Eligibility Center |
